DIY STEPS
Seven checks. About ten minutes.
- 01
Write your brand strings
List your company name, primary domain, product line names, and the two or three misspellings customers already type. Keep this list open — every later step uses it.
- 02
Search exact-match shopping queries
In a private window, search “your brand” + shop, login, support, and order help. Open results that are not your official domain. Note any site that uses your logo, product photos, or tone.
- 03
Build a quick typosquat list
Hand-write 8–12 variants: missing letter, swapped letters, brand-shop, get-brand, brand + coupon, and common TLD swaps (.net, .co, .shop, .online). You are mapping attack surface, not accusing anyone yet.
- 04
Check domain age and ownership cues
For each live host, look up public registration age and DNS basics. Brand-new domains with polished checkout pages are a classic clone pattern — flag anything under ~90 days for a closer look.
- 05
Inspect checkout and payment red flags
On suspicious stores, walk the cart without paying. Crypto-only, gift-card-only, missing physical address, broken contact pages, and pressure timers are high-signal commercial scam markers.
- 06
Scan ads and support lures
Search ad libraries and social results for your brand + discount / tracking / password reset. Fake “order help” and login pages often convert faster than full storefront clones.
- 07
Document and decide
Capture hostname, evidence snippet, and risk gut-check for each finding. If anything looks real, run the free Scam Detective preview next — then unlock the $9 lookalike list for named domains + risk, or the $29 full audit if you want the researched pack and takedown template.
